About the Credential
What GAF Master Elite Actually Means
GAF is the largest roofing manufacturer in North America. They have a tiered contractor program -- certified, factory certified, and Master Elite. The top tier, Master Elite, is the hardest to earn and the hardest to keep.
To qualify, a contractor has to hold a valid Florida contractor's license, carry full general liability and workers' comp insurance, maintain a strong reputation with no unresolved customer complaints, and demonstrate consistent installation quality. GAF reviews and re-certifies Master Elite contractors annually. There's no grandfathering -- you either meet the requirements each year or you lose the designation.
The result is a contractor pool that nationally represents fewer than 3% of all roofers. In Florida specifically, with its high hurricane-season demand and large number of licensed roofers, holding this status is a meaningful differentiator.
GAF Master Elite is the highest contractor certification GAF offers. It requires an active Florida license, full insurance, verified customer satisfaction, and annual recertification. Fewer than 3% of U.S. roofing contractors hold it. JA Edwards of America is GAF Master Elite certified in all four Florida markets it serves.
The Standard
The Requirements Most Contractors Can't Meet
GAF's Master Elite requirements aren't a one-time test. They're a continuous standard. Every contractor in the program is reviewed annually, and these are the criteria that have to be met every year to keep the designation.
Valid State License
The contractor must hold a current, valid contractor's license in Florida. No exceptions. GAF verifies this directly with the state licensing board. JAEA holds CGC1534283 and CCC1334804.
Full Insurance Coverage
General liability and workers' compensation coverage must be active and in force. This protects homeowners from liability during the installation and it's a requirement GAF takes seriously.
Reputation Verification
GAF reviews complaint history and customer satisfaction. Any unresolved customer complaints can trigger a review of the contractor's status. This keeps the program from being purely about sales volume.
Installation Quality
Master Elite contractors follow GAF's installation specifications on every job. This is what makes the difference-level warranty possible -- the manufacturer is confident enough in the installation that they'll back it directly.
Annual Recertification
There's no lifetime certification. GAF recertifies Master Elite contractors every year. This means every year JAEA holds the designation, it has passed the full review again -- not just the initial one.
System Plus Warranty Eligibility
Only Master Elite contractors can offer the GAF System Plus Warranty, which covers both materials and labor for 25 to 50 years depending on the system installed. Standard certified contractors cannot offer this coverage.
Comparison
Master Elite vs. Standard GAF Certified
Not all GAF contractors are the same. Here's what separates Master Elite from the standard certification level.
| Requirement or Benefit | GAF Certified Contractor | JA Edwards (Master Elite) | Unlicensed / Uncertified |
|---|---|---|---|
| State Contractor License Required | Yes | Verified Annually | |
| Insurance Verification | Basic check | Full GL + Workers Comp | |
| Annual Recertification | Every Year | ||
| Customer Reputation Review | Not required | GAF Verified | |
| GAF System Plus Warranty (labor + materials) | Up to 50 years | ||
| Silver Pledge Warranty (materials only) | |||
| Contractors in this tier (nationally) | ~20% of roofers | Top 3% of all U.S. roofers | ~60%+ of roofers |
The Award
GAF President's Club 3-Star Award
The GAF President's Club is a separate recognition program for Master Elite contractors that have demonstrated exceptional performance across installation volume, customer satisfaction, and community involvement. The 3-Star award is the highest level within that program.
Not every Master Elite contractor earns a President's Club award. It requires sustained performance across multiple categories over consecutive years, and the 3-Star designation means JAEA has met the highest threshold in all of them.
- Requires existing GAF Master Elite status -- non-Master Elite contractors are not eligible
- Evaluated on installation volume, quality, and verified customer satisfaction
- 3-Star is the highest award level within the President's Club program
- Recognition is earned and re-evaluated -- it's not a permanent designation
For Homeowners
Why These Credentials Matter to You
Certifications are only meaningful if they translate into something tangible for the homeowner. Here's what Master Elite status actually means in practice when you hire JAEA.
Stronger Warranty Coverage
Only Master Elite contractors can offer the GAF System Plus Warranty, which covers both materials and labor. A standard certified contractor can only offer the materials-only Silver Pledge. That gap in coverage matters when something goes wrong years after installation.
Verified License Every Year
Florida has a significant problem with unlicensed roofing work, particularly after storms. When you hire a Master Elite contractor, GAF has already verified that the license is current and valid. You don't have to take anyone's word for it.
Insurance That's Actually Active
An uninsured contractor working on your roof creates liability you carry. Master Elite status requires current, verified insurance coverage every year. If something goes wrong on-site, the contractor's insurance covers it -- not yours.
Installation by the Spec
Master Elite contractors install according to GAF's specifications, which is what makes the System Plus Warranty valid. This matters in Florida where wind ratings and code compliance requirements affect both the warranty and the roof's performance in a storm.

What Customers Say
From Florida Homeowners
"When I found out they were GAF Master Elite certified I felt a lot better about the decision. The installation was clean, they pulled the permits, and the warranty documentation was all in order. Exactly what you want."
"I specifically looked for a Master Elite contractor because I wanted the System Plus Warranty. JA Edwards was one of the few in Tampa that actually held that certification. Great crew, clean job, no problems."
"After two bad experiences with contractors who didn't pull permits, I decided to only work with certified companies. JA Edwards pulled the permit same day and walked me through the whole GAF warranty process. Good people."
